Connections Camp

A summer program for children, teens and young adults with Asperger Syndrome or High-Functioning Autism

The Connections Camp is a daily summer therapeutic experience designed to meet the individual and social needs of children and adolescents with Asperger Syndrome or High-Functioning Autism. Intervention focuses on the development of social skills within peer groups. Participants have fun as they learn to cope with challenges, manage emotions, and make good decisions.

Target Audience Youth aged five to 18 (participants aged 18-21 will be individually considered) Diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome or High-Functioning Autism Ability to benefit from intervention within a group structure Dates Erie - June 23 - August 1, 2008 Forest - Warren - June 23 - August 1, 2008 All sessions meet from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Therapeutic Activities Opportunity to learn and practice social skills in a supportive environment Individual treatment goals Inclusive experiences Structure curriculum Center-based groups Community access activities, such as swimming, sailing, and group choice outings. The Connections Camp is staffed by a highly qualified and motivated team of experienced professionals. All staff members learn state of the art treatment strategies to enhance the development of social skills in children, regarding both Asperger Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism. If your child currently receives wrap-around services, please contact your provider to request the following information: Treatment plan with signature page Plan of care Summary, including Summer Therapeutic Activities Program as a recommended service Medical necessity statement from prescribing physician/psychologist dated between April 20 – June 1, 2007 Funding arrangements may be made through private payment or pre-approved sources. Most program participants are funded through Medical Assistance. The Connections Camp is a M.A. approved Summer Therapeutic Activities Program, which can be included as part of existing wrap-around services or provided as a summer program service. Transportation Transportation arrangement to and from the program are the responsibility of each family. Transportation to all program activities will be provided by the Connections Camp staff.
