Throughout the Spectrum: Exploring Autism Through Art"

Calling All Artists & Those Who Love Art!

Visit 'Exploring Autism Through Art' The pastel watercolors of Vitas Kaiser’s landscapes, the steel and wood of Evan Everhart’s sculptures and the bold lines of Francis Schanz’s acrylics are among the works of art on display as part of a community art show sponsored by the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber National Institute. “Throughout the Spectrum: Exploring Autism through Art” opens Friday, April 4 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The exhibit continues on Sunday, April 6, from 1-5 p.m. when complimentary refreshments will be served; and on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 7, 8 and 9, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The Show is open to the public and admission is free of charge.

While the Art Show is being held during Autism Awareness Month, the exhibit features more than 120 pieces of artwork created by children and adults living with autism and other developmental disabilities; family members and professionals; as well as working artists in our community who support this artistic endeavor.

The Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Award of Excellence will be presented to four artists whose work exemplifies the “Best of Show” for the 2008 Art Show.  While each piece of artwork reflects the individuality and unique gifts of each artist, a panel of jurors has reviewed all of the artwork in terms of originality, creativity and achievement within the media.

Many pieces of artwork are for sale during the show, and several artists are donating the proceeds of their sale to the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Foundation.
